A Different Recession

This current recession has affected everyone, from the upper class to the lower class. So many people have heard the saying, “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.” This has not been the case during the current recession. There have been mansions in foreclosure, not just $50,000 houses. Keeping up their current lifestyles, also known as, “keeping up with the Joneses” is not always possible, especially if you have lost your source of income.

People can from all aspects of life have lost their jobs. Whether they were employed in high paying jobs before the recession hit, or lower paying jobs, bosses had to cut costs to keep their businesses going. Unfortunately, many of those bosses eventually lost their businesses as well. Some companies continued to attempt to operate on shoestring budgets hoping to be able to boost business. Unfortunately, as checks started bouncing, they too had to go out of business.

Each story that one hears about the recession is just one of millions from men and women who have experienced its effects. It is sobering to have worked all your life and then have to go on unemployment. In some cases, they go on unemployment only to run out of time and end up jobless and without income again.

There is a saying about those in high places falling the farthest. In this case, the fall was not due to their own problems, but it was due to a recession that hit everyone harder than expected and lasted longer than anyone thought it would.
