How High Can You Go

As the recession continues to rage in the United States, its food prices have continued to rise at a drastically alarming rate. The increase in food costs just can be seen across the board and have led many to wonder just when this madness will end. Many are interested in just how much money we have to spend in order to feed our families today and how that number compares to 10 years ago, to 20 years ago and even further back.
While this is an interesting question, figuring out the answer it actually more difficult than ever. In the United States, we have is a wide disparity between the wealthy and the poor and this impacts the numbers. Still one can say that, at least according to some studies, in the past decade, the cost to feed a family of four adults has risen significantly.
An average American family spends approximately $900 a month to feed a family of four adults. Those with young children who require diapers or formula spend considerably more money each month. These figures are significantly higher than those of just 10 years ago. Some experts believe this rise in the cost of food is a function of the current recession while others point to the rising cost of labor and commodities. Whenever the case, food costs are simply much higher than they used to be.
There is no real answer to the question of how high the cost of food will rise – only time will tell
