Since the beginning of time, man has been hunting for food. He tried hunting down animals from the forest and eating raw leaves and wild food found in the forests. Later, he learned the technique of cultivating plants. With this new found discovery he learned to stop hunting for his food by growing them in his own backyard.
Since then, agriculture has become one of the most important features of a country. A country can be considered as stable or unstable depending on the amount of food it can provide its people. A country which can produce enough grains to feed its people is a very stable one indeed. In fact, agriculture is what drives a country.
The most important type of food cultivated is the cereal grains and the vegetables. These two forms the staple food stuff and so are in high demand all day throughout the year. A shortage in any one of the food items would result in a world crisis. One country can stop the import of particular food stuff and the whole world would be affected by its impact.
The best example would be the shortage of onions which had occurred a few months back. When the countries refused to import their product as they had to feed their own people, the world saw a tremendous supply shortage and price rise of the onions. The whole process is like a chain, when one link is broken the whole chain gets affected and becomes unstable.
Agriculture is the force which builds up a nation. It is not to be considered as something which can be compromised with. The countries with the largest amount of agriculture are very lucky indeed as they have the capacity to feed their people in case of a crisis which shall be something they should be proud of.
